Concentrate or Ready-to-Use

Ready-to-use bottles are convenient and expensive. You are paying to ship water. Concentrates cost more per jug and far less per litre of working solution, but only if they are diluted correctly — under-dilution wastes product and over-dilution leaves surfaces that look clean and are not. If your staff mix by eye, a dilution control system pays for itself quickly and removes the single largest source of chemical waste in most buildings.

Disinfectants: Check the DIN

Any product sold in Canada as a disinfectant carries a Drug Identification Number from Health Canada. If a product makes disinfectant claims without one, it has not been reviewed for those claims. Equally important is contact time — the surface has to stay visibly wet for the period stated on the label, which is often longer than a quick wipe allows. A disinfectant applied and immediately dried has not disinfected anything.

Match the Chemical to the Surface

Acidic washroom cleaners cut scale and rust but etch marble, terrazzo and some grouts. Alkaline degreasers handle kitchen soil but can dull finished floors. High-pH strippers belong on floors due for a recoat, not on a maintenance schedule. Reading pH before buying prevents most of the damage we see facilities pay to repair.
